Punjab Police freezes 63,749 bank accounts linked to cyber fraud in one year.

Punjab Police’s State Cyber Crime Division has frozen 63,749 bank accounts over the last one year which were linked to cyber fraud involving transactions worth approximately Rs. 540.34 crore.

The division has also registered 62,253 cybercrime cases during the same period across the state. Out of the total money defrauded, Police have succeeded in returning around Rs 64 Crore to the victims since 2024.

Punjab Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, while disclosing this, said the crackdown has not only enabled to freeze fraudulent accounts but has also helped expose organised cybercrime networks operating across the country.

The most affected region in Punjab is the NRI belt of Doaba, with Jalandhar leading with freezing of over 20 thousand bank accounts and recovery of more than Rs. 7.30 Crore. Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur are two other affected districts of the region in the state.
