In a joint operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and police recovered a large quantity of narcotics from the Raghna border area under Dharmanagar Police Station in Tripura on Saturday.
According to police headquarters, 9,427 Yaba tablets were found abandoned near the border fencing. The seized tablets are estimated to be worth around 50 lakh rupees in the illegal market. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act. An investigation is underway.
In the latest incident, personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a large consignment of contraband Yaba tablets near the international border in North Tripura district on Friday morning.
The seizure was made during routine patrolling near the Raghna Integrated Check Post in Dharmanagar subdivision.
According to official sources, BSF jawans noticed an abandoned packet lying close to the barbed-wire fencing along the India-Bangladesh border.
Upon inspection, the packet was found to contain a substantial quantity of Yaba tablets. Following legal procedures, the seized consignment was handed over to personnel of Dharmanagar Police Station.
Police sources suspect that the narcotics were left near the border by smugglers for collection by their counterparts across the border in Bangladesh.
The seized tablets are estimated to be worth more than Rs 50 lakh in the black market. Authorities have initiated an investigation to identify and trace those involved in the smuggling operation.
