Although the overall flood situation of Assam improved marginally, the number of affected districts remained unchanged in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile three more persons lost their lives in the current wave of floods taking the overall death toll in the State to 107.
However, the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati has predicted heavy rainfall in the next 72 hours which is a matter of concern.
Till late Wednesday, 1,536 villages under 54 revenue circles continued to reel under flood, while around 93,000 hectares of cropland have remained submerged.
As per the daily flood bulletin of Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 4,19,300 people in Goalpara district are bearing the brunt of flood. Further, as many as 37,012 people are taking shelter in 321 relief camps.
The Brahmaputra in Jorhat, Sonitpur and Dhubri, Dhansiri in Golaghat, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur and Kopili in Nagaon were flowing above the danger level till this morning.
Altogether 26 camps in Kaziranga National Park, 12 camps in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary and five camps in Orang National Park also got inundated by the flood waters.
