Following incessant rainfall in many parts of Assam, the flood situation of the the state continued to be grim till even as the flood-induced death toll increased to 103 with one new fatality reported from Golaghat district.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) meanwhile on Monday said that the number of flood-affected population has decreased to 22,33,920 from a peak of 35 lakh recorded on July 18.
Among those currently affected, 45,565 people are taking shelter in 432 relief camps across the State. Along with settlements, floodwaters also submerged 1,09,236.62 hectares of cropland in the affected districts.
But Assam may not witness any improvement in the flood situation soon, as rainfall continues in most part of Assam and even the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati on Monday forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in the next 72 hours.
Aggravating the situation, the Brahmaputra in Jorhat, Sonitpur, Goalpara and Dhubri, Dhansiri in Golaghat, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur, Kopili in Nagaon and Beki in Barpeta districts were also flowing above the danger level till Monday morning.
The flood situation in Kaziranga National Park, Orang National Park and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary remained unchanged too.
