In US, a federal judge has stopped an order from President Donald Trump that aimed to cut government support for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.
Judge Adam Abelson in Baltimore ruled that the order likely violates free speech and issued an injunction to block it while a lawsuit continues.
Mr. Trump signed the order on his first day back in office, directing federal agencies to end DEI-related funding. He also required federal contractors to certify they do not support DEI initiatives.
The lawsuit, filed by Baltimore and education groups, argues that Trump’s order is unconstitutional and limits free speech. The Trump administration claims it has the right to control federal spending based on the president’s policies.
