The External Affairs Ministry has said the Qatar authorities have handed over two saroops of Guru Granth Sahib to the Indian Embassy in Doha. The saroops were taken from an Indian national in a case related to running a religious establishment without approval.
In a statement, the Ministry thanked the government of Qatar for handing the saroops of Guru Granth Sahib. The Ministry has also appealed to all Indian citizens residing in Qatar or other countries to scrupulously follow local laws and regulations in all matters.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on August 23, had said that India took up with Qatar reports of seizure of copies of Guru Granth Sahib, and is according high priority to the matter.
Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami has welcomed the return of the two holy saroops (scriptures) of Guru Granth Sahib from the custody of Doha police in Qatar. He mentioned efforts of the external affairs ministry for this task and demanded that these saroops be brought to India. In a press release issued here on Wednesday, Dhami said: “It is good that the Centre has made serious efforts in keeping with the reverence of holy Guru Granth Sahib. This matter is very serious, as it is connected with the religious sentiments of the Sikh community.”
