Describing its relations with Bangladesh as “time-tested and historic”, India on Thursday said that it appreciated Dhaka’s view of Jammu-Kashmir issue being its internal issue, reports the media.
“Our relations with Bangladesh are time tested and historic. We appreciate their consistent stand that Jammu and Kashmir and all its developments are India’s internal matters. It’s a stand they’ve always taken,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava was quoted as saying by the media on Thursday.
His remarks came while responding to a query about Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan attempting to discuss Kashmir with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina in a telephone call, according to the news report.
In August last year, India’s government revoked Article 370 of its constitution that gave Indian-administered Kashmir special status.
Dhaka said the decision taken by the Indian government on Jammu and Kashmir was an internal matter of India.
“Bangladesh maintains that the abrogation of Article 370 by the Indian Government is an internal issue of India,” the foreign ministry was quoted as saying.
