The COVID 19 situation in Bangladesh continued to show increasing infections and deaths as 9500 new cases were reported on Wednesday. This is the highest number of single day infections since August 16 last year. The country reported 12 deaths during the same period.
The sample positivity rate also went up to 25.11 percent on Wednesday from 23.98 percent a day earlier. Dhaka reported a sample positivity rate of 28.11 percent. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) declared ten more districts in the high risk ‘red zone’ as the positivity rate was found to be between 10-19 percent in these districts. Now 12 districts of Bangladesh are under the ‘red zone’ for COVID infection. 32 districts in the country have been classified as ‘yellow zone’ with moderate risk having a sample positivity rate between 5-10 percent.
The DGHS announced that COVID infections increased by 228 percent between last week and the week before taking into account the number of people infected by the virus. Deaths due to COVID also increased by 185 percent during the same comparison period as 57 people died last week compared to 20 the week earlier.
