American Airlines flight from New York to Delhi diverted to Rome over suspected bomb threat.

An American Airlines flight from New York to Delhi was diverted to Rome, Italy, last evening following a ‘suspected bomb threat’. The Boeing 787-9 aircraft was carrying 199 passengers and 15 crew members.

The aircraft landed safely at Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Rome around 10 PM, IST and law enforcement authorities inspected and cleared the aircraft to re-depart.

As per Delhi airport protocol, an inspection was required before landing in Delhi. In a post on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), an Indian-origin passenger, Lucky Chawla who was part of the 199 passengers on board the American Airlines flight to Delhi from New York, sent an SOS from his hotel in Rome, seeking the airline’s help to help him with his luggage, as he remains stranded.

Chawla said in his post, “American Airlines, AA292 getting rerouted due to a bomb threat has left me stranded at a Rome hotel—my checked bags are at the airport. Crew & ground staff were amazing, but I’m extremely stressed—I urgently need my bags to rebook my trip. Unable to get any help. Please help.”
