95 Dead After 7.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Tibet, Tremors Felt In Patna, Guwahati.



An earthquake of 7.1 magnitude hit Tibet near the Nepalese border early this morning killing 95 people, with tremors felt in several parts of India, including Bihar, Assam and West Bengal. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 6:35 am and Xizang in Tibet was the epicenter of it. 

The tremors were particularly felt in Patna, Guwahati where people were seen outside their houses and apartments.

Further, as per NCS data, two more earthquakes struck the region later in the morning.

“Russia Shares Grief.” Putin On Huge Earthquake In Tibet.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday expressed his “sincerest condolences” to Chinese President Xi Jinping over a devastating earthquake in Tibet that killed at least 95 people.

“Russia shares the grief of those who have lost relatives and close ones as a result of this natural disaster, and hopes for a speedy recovery,” Putin told Xi in a message posted by the Kremlin.

“Deeply Saddened.” Dalai Lama On Huge Earthquake In Tibet That Killed 95.

Tibet’s spiritual leader the Dalai Lama said Tuesday he was “deeply saddened” and was offering prayers for those killed in a devastating earthquake in China’s remote Himalayan region.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the devastating earthquake… It has caused the tragic loss of many lives, numerous injuries, and extensive destruction to homes and property,” the exiled leader said in a statement.

China Shuts Down Mt. Everest Scenic Area After Earthquake Hits Tibet.



China has closed for tourists the scenic areas of its side of Mt Everest, also known as Mount Qomolangma, following a 7.1-magnitude earthquake that jolted Dingri County in the Tibet Autonomous Region on Tuesday.

Dingri is home to the base camp of the world’s highest peak.

According to local authorities, the staff and tourists were in safe condition after the earthquake, which hit the region at 9:05 am Tuesday (Beijing Time)

It will reopen based on the situation after the aftershocks. He mentioned that the county’s power supply has not fully recovered, and specific casualty data is still being compiled, it reported. Currently, there are three tourists in the Mount Qomolangma Scenic Area who have been safely relocated to open outdoor areas for emergency shelter.

As per NCS data, two more earthquakes struck the region later in the morning. One of magnitude 4.7 was recorded at 7:02 AM IST, with its epicenter at latitude 28.60 degrees North and longitude 87.68 degrees East, at a depth of 10 kilometers. Another earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred at 7:07 AM IST, with its epicenter at latitude 28.68 degrees North and longitude 87.54 degrees East, at a depth of 30 kilometers. No reports of damage or casualties have been received so far. Further details are awaited.
