Zojila Pass NH1 Srinagar-Leh Highway remains open during February for the first time ever.

Zojila Pass NH1 Srinagar Leh Highway, an important mountain pass linking Ladakh to Kashmir and beyond, is situated at an elevation of 11,575 feet. In a historic achievement, it has remained open during February for the first time ever, despite the region’s harsh winter conditions.

This remarkable achievement is credited to the tireless efforts of the local administration, district authorities, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) project Becon, Project Vjayk Ut Ladakh police and JK police and the Indian Army, who have persevered despite subzero temperatures and challenging weather conditions.

Zojila Pass is an essential connection between Kashmir and Ladakh, important for defence, trade, civilian movement, and tourism. It facilitates military transport and guarantees the delivery of vital goods to Ladakh.

Recently PM Modi inaugurated the Z-Morh Tunnel. The Z-Morh Tunnel is a game-changing infrastructure project in Jammu and Kashmir. Spanning 6.5 kilometres, this two-lane tunnel connects Gagangir to Sonamarg, ensuring year-round access to the hill station, which was previously cut off during harsh winters due to avalanche-prone roads.
