Amidst heatwave across Kashmir valley, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar has recorded its third-highest temperature for the month of July, reaching 36.2 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department (MeT) said, the temperature marks the hottest day of the season in Srinagar so far. The city also recorded the hottest night of the season at 24.6 degree Celsius, which was 5.8 degree Celsius above normal and was the third-highest temperature in the last 132 years.
Director MeT Kashmir, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said, the all-time highest maximum temperature in Srinagar for July is 38.3 degrees Celsius recorded on July 10, 1946, followed by 37 degrees Celsius on July 9, 1999. However, he said that today Srinagar recorded the third-highest day temperature at 36.2 degrees Celsius.
The 2nd all-time highest minimum temperature was recorded on 26 July 2021 at 24.8 degree Celsius while the all-time highest temperature was recorded at 25.2 degree Celsius on 21 July 1988.
Pertinently, the parts of Jammu and Kashmir are expected to witness a significant decline in the temperature as there is a possibility of rains in the Union Territory from tomorrow.
