In Odisha, 11 coaches of the Bengaluru-Guwahati Kamakhya SuperFast Express train derailed near the Nergundi railway station in the Cuttack district today. According to the preliminary reports, one person has lost his life while at least seven persons are injured with some reported to be in critical condition.
The injured passengers are being shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack. The train was heading towards Kamakhya from Bengaluru. Senior officials of Indian Railways are reaching the accident site. Rescue and relief operations are underway.
Medical teams, NDRF and Fire Services personnel have been dispatched to the site. Efforts are being made to ensure stranded passengers reach their destinations safely.
Railway officials said, restoration work at the accident site will commence shortly, and necessary measures are being taken to resume train services in the affected section as soon as possible. Helpline numbers have been announced by the Indian Railways to help the passengers and their relatives to get information about the derailment.
