In Jammu and Kashmir, Meteorological Department has said that the Union Territory will see a mix of hot and humid weather with spells of rain over the coming days, warning of intense showers and flash flood risks in parts of the Jammu division.

The weather department said that the region will experience intermittent light to moderate rain from today to July 30, with intense showers and heavy rain at a few places of the Jammu division, mainly during late night and early morning hours.

For August 1 to 3, generally hot and humid weather with scattered rain activity is expected. The Met department has warned of intense showers, gusty winds, heavy rain, and a flash flood risk at vulnerable places between July 28-30, along with the possibility of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones. Farmers have been advised to resume farm operations.

Director MeT Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said hot and humid conditions along with intermittent brief showers are likely across the region in the next 48 hours. From there on, the region is expected to witness occasional light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers with strong winds.

“Parts of the Jammu division may see intense rainfall, particularly during late night and early morning hours,” he said.

From August 1 to 3, the predictions suggest continued hot and humid weather, with scattered rain or thundershowers at some isolated places.

The MET Centre has issued an alert for the period from July 28 to 30, warning of intense rainfall, gusty winds, and the risk of flashfloods in vulnerable areas.

There is also a possibility of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in hilly regions. Farmers have been advised to resume agricultural activities with caution.

Earlier this past week, twin landslides claimed two lives in J&K’s Poonch and Rajouri. A woman pilgrim and a young schoolchild were killed in the two separate incidents.

The Jammu division, in particular, has received above-normal rainfall in the past few days, triggering flash floods and mudslides at different places.
