In Jammu and Kashmir, fresh landslides have delayed the opening of the historic Mughal Road, with traffic movement expected to resume within a day or two.
The historic Mughal Road, the alternate National Highway connecting twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu division with the Shopian district of Kashmir division, was expected to be opened for vehicular traffic today, but fresh landslides have occurred at multiple locations along the road in Poonch district. Earlier, the movement of vehicles was expected to be restored today, which was also set as a target date by the district administration of Poonch.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which took over this road a few months ago, was carrying out snow clearance work from the last several days, which was completed up to Pir Ki Gali from the Poonch side two days ago.
SDM Surankote, Farooq Khan, said things were going on as per schedule, and there were all chances that the road will be restored today, but some landslides have resulted in delay in traffic restoration. He said that the road is now expected to be opened tomorrow, provided the weather remains clear. He said an inspection of the road would be conducted by the District Magistrate as well as the SSP today.
