The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across Arunachal Pradesh, and has issued a Red Alert for three districts for tomorrow.
The three districts are East Kameng, Papum Pare, and West Siang. According to the IMD, these districts are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rainfall at isolated places. In particular, the Papum Pare district may receive more than 20 cm of rainfall in some areas.
In addition to the Red Alert, the weather office has also issued an Orange Alert for five other districts and a Yellow Alert for the remaining districts, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall.
According to the bulletin issued today, the districts most likely to be affected on August 2 include Papumpare, East Kameng, Lower Subansiri, Anjaw, Namsai, West Siang, and Leparada. On August 3, the severe weather may intensify, impacting East Kameng, West Kameng, West Siang, Namsai, Lower Dibang Valley, Kamle, Papumpare, Anjaw, and Lohit.
APSDMA has advised residents, especially those in low-lying areas, near hillsides, and construction zones, to remain vigilant for possible flooding, landslides, flash floods, and lightning strikes. Commuters and long-distance travelers are urged to plan their journeys cautiously and avoid travel during intense rain. Outdoor activities should also be postponed.
