In Gujarat, the coastal districts of Saurashtra continue to witness heavy rainfall for the past two days leading to flood-like situation in low lying areas. Our correspondent reports that Dev Bhoomi Dwaraka and Porbandar were worst affected districts, recording more than 20 inches of rainfall in last 36 hours.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in nine districts of Saurashtra and South Gujarat region for the next two days.
Akashvani correspondent reports that heavy rains disrupted normal life in Porbandar and Devbhumi Dwarka districts leaving several areas underwater. Nearly 57 villages have been affected by the floods in the state. State relief commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey said, 10 teams each of NDRF and SDRF have been deployed in flood affected districts.
He said 45 people stranded in flood water were rescued while around 400 people living in low lying areas were shifted to safer locations. More than 200 roads including nine state highways have been affected due to rains. Power supply was disrupted in more than 350 villages which was restored in 300 villages so far. 13 dams in the state have been put on high alert. Meanwhile, IMD has issued Red alert in nine districts of Saurashtra and South Gujarat.
