In Ladakh, District Administration Kargil accorded a grand and heartfelt welcome to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on his arrival in Zanskar yesterday.
Present on the occasion were the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, SSP and other senior administrators. Representatives of Zanskar Buddhist Association, Zanskar Gonpa Association, IKMT Kargil, Anjuman-e-Sahib Zamaan, Anjuman-e-Moinul Islam Zanskar, and thousands of devotees from across the country and abroad also participated in the welcome ceremony held at Karsha Photang.
The Dalai Lama addressed the gathering and offered blessings. He emphasised the importance of interfaith harmony, peaceful coexistence, and educating both the heart and the mind. He lauded the deep mutual respect among religious communities in Zanskar and highlighted the values of compassion and inner peace.
The visit of His Holiness Dalai Lama is part of the ongoing Zanskar Kargyopa Summer Philosophical Symposium 2025, aimed at promoting spiritual dialogue, ethical learning, and communal harmony.

Addressing the gathering at Photang Karsha, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, expressed profound reverence and gratitude on behalf of the people of Kargil. He described His Holiness as a “spiritual beacon of compassion, wisdom, and peace,” and highlighted that his teachings transcend borders, inspiring not just the Buddhist community but humanity at large by promoting harmony, non-violence, and inner transformation.
He termed the occasion as sacred and historic, extending prayers for a long, healthy, and happy life for His Holiness. He also thanked the organizers, volunteers, and spiritual leaders for their contributions in hosting the event at Karsha Photang Centre.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama also addressed the massive gathering, offering blessings and sharing his message of peace and spiritual growth. He emphasized the deep harmony and mutual respect among religious communities in Zanskar, noting how both Buddhist and Muslim communities coexist peacefully and support one another.
His Holiness spoke warmly of the ongoing symposium’s vitality and the importance of educating both heart and mind a theme he’s long championed through the Social, Emotional, Ethical Learning (SEE‑Learning) initiative. He reminded the audience: “Time is always moving on; nothing can stop it. The more compassionate you are, the more you will find inner peace.”
