Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia’s war in Ukraine could end more quickly under Donald Trump’s leadership as U.S. president. In an interview with Ukrainian radio, Zelenskyy acknowledged the tough situation on the battlefield, where Russia has advantages in troops and weapons.
Zelenskyy said the war might end sooner because of the policies of Trump’s new team in the White House, which reflect promises Trump made to his supporters.
He also emphasized Ukraine’s goal of ending the war through diplomacy by next year. The recently re-elected U.S. president Trump, has claimed the Ukraine-Russia war wouldn’t have started if he had been in office. He has also said he could resolve the war in a single day but hasn’t explained how.
During his campaign, Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, questioned ongoing U.S. support for Ukraine. While Zelenskyy looks to diplomacy, G7 leaders reaffirmed their strong support for Ukraine yesterday. In a statement, they pledged solidarity with Ukraine’s fight for independence and its rebuilding efforts, blaming Russia as the only obstacle to peace.
