In Jammu and Kashmir, five security personnel, including an officer and a SOG jawan, who were critically injured in a gunfight with heavily-armed terrorists last night, succumbed to injuries in Doda district today. Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that the encounter took place between the security forces and terrorists last night.

The troops of Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group of J&K Police launched a joint cordon and search operation at Dhari Gote in Doda district on a specific input about the presence of the terrorists in the area. In the gunfight five soldiers were critically injured and four of them, including the officer, later succumbed to injuries. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinah paid tributes to the brave soldiers.

Four army personnel including a Major-rank officer succumbed to their injuries after an encounter on Monday night in Doda district’s Desa forests in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per sources, firing shots were heard in between Uddan Bagi and Dheri Goth at Dessa district of Doda at around 7.45 pm.

The encounter started after terrorists hiding inside the forests suddenly opened fire on a security forces party, which was carrying out searches in the area. The security forces retaliated and the exchange of fire between two sides continued for nearly half an hour. Since then, there has been no firing from terrorists’ side.

It is suspected that a group of six to eight terrorists were involved, including foreign terrorists — much higher than the number assessed initially.

As part of the operation, neighboring units have also been inducted, including 26 RR and 9 RR, alongside a special forces team, drones and helicopters for the search operation. Additional troops are also being moved into the area

Sources said that at least five soldiers sustained bullet injuries after they chased terrorists into the forests who fled after the brief encounter. The injured were evacuated to the hospital but four of them later succumbed to injuries.

The Nagrota-based White Knight Corps, citing initial reports, had confirmed “injuries to our brave hearts”, but did not give details about the injured. It posted on its official handle on ‘X’ that “contact with terrorists was established at about 2100 hrs in which heavy firefight ensued”.

Sources, however, had said that the injured included a Major rank officer.

In a post on X, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s office said that he had spoken to Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi this morning. The Army Chief apprised Singh of the ground situation and the ongoing counter-terrorist operation in the Doda district.
