Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the Centre will release the Aadhar card of over 9.35 lakh people of the state. Talking to newspersons in Guwahati, the Chief Minister said that between February and August 2019, the allotment process of Aadhar was stopped due to NRC biometric related exercise in the state.
Mr. Sarma said that he recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to appraise him on this issue. Around 9,35,682 individuals had provided their biometrics details for Aadhaar card issuance at centres that were also NRC (National Register of Citizens) centres between February and August 2019.
Sarma said, “There is no connection between the 19 lakh individuals whose names are missing from the NRC list and the 9 lakh who have not received Aadhaar.”
The office of the Registrar General of India (RGI), under the Union ministry of home affairs, has asked the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to release the locked biometrics of 9,35,682 residents of Assam.
