10 Terrorists Killed In Manipur Chandel Gunfight With Assam Rifles, Operation Ongoing.

At least ten militants were neutralised on Wednesday (14 May) in Manipur’s Chandel district during a fierce exchange of fire with an Assam Rifles unit.

The counter-insurgency operation, launched by a Spear Corps unit of the Assam Rifles, is ongoing along the Indo-Myanmar border. The encounter broke out near New Samtal village in Khengjoy tehsil, a region known for insurgent presence and lying close to the international border.

The militants fired at the troops, to which they retaliated and killed at least 10 of them in the firefight.”Acting on specific intelligence on movement of armed cadres near the New Samtal village, Khengjoy tehsil, Chandel district, close to the Indo-Myanmar border, Assam Rifles unit under Spear Corps launched an operation on May 14,” the Army’s Eastern Command said in a post on X.

“Operation is still in progress,” the Army said.The operation comes amid a statewide crackdown on militant outfits across Manipur.

Last week, at least 13 militants were arrested in a joint operation by security forces and police in Manipur on 10 May.
