Unprecedented Rainfall In Goa During Early Southwest Monsoon.

Since the onset of the Southwest monsoon, Goa has received an unprecedented rainfall in the first three weeks of June. Until 25th June, Sanguem rain gauge station in Goa recorded the highest seasonal total rainfall of 802.6 mm. So far, 8th June  was the wettest day in Goa for this season, recording 95.1 mm of rainfall within 24 hours.

If the active rainfall pattern continues over the state, rain gauge stations are likely to reach the 1,000 mm mark sooner than they have in the previous couple of years.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert till June 29 warning of heavy rainfall to very heavy rainfall with strong surface winds likely to occur at isolated places over the state of Goa. IMD has issued warning of squally weather till June 28 and fishermen are advised not to venture along and off the south Maharashtra-Goa coast during this period.
