Telangana govt urges KRMB to address water-sharing violations by Andhra Pradesh.

Telangana state government has urged the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to take strong action against Andhra Pradesh alleging that the state is drawing additional water and violating the norms. The KRMB convened a meeting under the chairmanship of Atul Jain in Hyderabad to resolve the dispute over the sharing of Krishna waters between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The Andhra Pradesh government skipped the meeting, leaving Telangana’s delegation to present its case in full force. Irrigation Secretary Rahul Bojja, along with Engineer in Chief Anil Kumar and Nalgonda District Chief Engineer Ajay Kumar represented Telangana. Presenting the detailed evidence, the team urged the KRMB to take strong action to end these violations.

The Telangana team formally complained to the KRMB, that the alleged action of Andhra Pradesh transferring water from the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs, without due authorisation violated established water-sharing regulations. Telangana’s Irrigation Department has been submitting monthly complaints since last year to KRMB regarding the alleged unlawful use of water by Andhra Pradesh.The 

Telangana team has also detailed the immediate water needs of Telangana, including both irrigation and drinking water requirements, which are critical for the state’s agricultural and urban areas. The team also informed that Andhra Pradesh had already used 650 TMC of water while Telangana had utilized only 225 TMCs of water.
