Uttarakhand got relief from the continuous rainfall over the past three days as the rain subsided today. With the rain stopping, debris is being swiftly cleared from blocked roads in various areas, and repair work on damaged roads is progressing rapidly. Over a hundred rural link roads in the state remain blocked due to landslides.
The water levels of major rivers in the state have risen. Authorities continue to monitor sensitive areas closely. In Rishikesh, with the Ganga River’s water level rising, SDRF and police teams are urging people to stay in safe locations.
Meanwhile, the Met Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in parts of Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Nainital, and Bageshwar districts over the next two days. A yellow alert has been issued for other areas, with a general advisory for residents to remain cautious.
Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for lightning and rain in some areas of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, Pithoragarh and Almora districts. The weather pattern in the state will remain the same until July 6.
People are facing the brunt of weather. Heavy rains have caused damage in many places in the state. Many houses in Dehradun and Mussoorie have turned into debris. In Sarai Colony of Mussoorie, a part of the mountain broke and fell on a house, causing heavy damage to the building.
There have been problems due to debris in many other places as well. The embankment was washed away due to the water level rising in Rispana River in Dehradun. The foundation of a house built near the river has cracked, causing damage to the building. Besides this, the situation is bad in other districts of the state as well.
The Disaster Management Department has identified highly sensitive areas in the state. JCBs and other equipment have been deployed there so that roadblocks can be cleared immediately. Near Gumkhal in Pauri district, the entire mountain cracked at Bairgaon on the Pauri-Kotdwar National Highway. Within seconds, large boulders and piles of soil completely blocked traffic on the road.
