In Punjab, a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillor, Harjinder Singh has been shot dead in Amritsar by some unidentified assailants, today.
Punjab Police Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Harpal Singh Randhawa told ANI, “Bike-borne miscreants shot him. According to the family, 5-6 boys – Karan, Kishan, Suraj, against whom he had earlier complained that they sell drugs, are involved. They had threatened him earlier, too. 5-6 rounds were fired.” The councillor succumbed in the hospital.
The miscreants fired five-six rounds of bullets at the councillor from a close distance while he was on his way to a hotel after attending a function at Chheharta Sahib Gurudwara. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to locals, two miscreants with their faces covered came on a motorcycle and stopped near Harjinder. One of them got down from the motorcycle and fired at the councillor who fell on the ground after being hit. Following this, they fled.
Randhawa said that as per Harjinder Singh’s family, some persons came to his house earlier also and fired shots. Further investigations are on.
