The Punjab government has decided to convene a special session of the Vidhan Sabha on the 5th of this month to discuss the issue of releasing water to Haryana. In a statement, it said that the state government will bring a special resolution on the water issue in this special session.
Meanwhile, an all-party meeting called by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to discuss the issue is underway in Chandigarh. It is reportedly being attended by the senior leaders of the BJP, Congress, SAD and BSP, besides AAP leaders.
The meeting, scheduled for 10 am at Punjab Bhawan, will be followed by a special Vidhan Sabha session on Monday (May 5) to pass a resolution on the issue. Invitations are being sent to all major political parties.
The announcements came during a meeting of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs and ministers chaired by AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal. Punjab AAP in-charge Manish Sisodia also attended.
Mann said the all-party meeting aimed to show political unity over Punjab’s rights on river waters. Asserting that Punjabis have a right to every drop, he urged parties to rise above differences and fight for the state’s interests. “It’s high time all parties unite and fight this war vehemently,” he said.
