The north-eastern region of India witnessed a spurt in coronavirus cases forcing state governments in the region to take measures including lockdown of affected areas.
IN ASSAM, 1,088 new positive cases were detected in the state, of which 649 in Guwahati, taking the total number to 19,754. Meanwhile, 715 patients were discharged from across the State on Wednesday.
Two more COVID-19 patients – Hira Devi (45) from Kamrup Metro and Dr Pradip Kumar Sharma (75) from Tinsukia succumbed to the virus today, as per the report of Death Audit Board of Assam.
IN TRIPURA, amid spurt in COVID-19 positive cases which have crossed the 2,094 mark, the state government has decided to imposed “total lockdown” within one kilometre radius of rural areas and 0.5 km radius of municipal areas from the international border with Bangladesh from July 17. The lockdown will remain in force for seven days.
IN MEGHALAYA, 28 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in the past 24 hours and most of these cases occurred among Border Security Force (BSF) personnel.
Health Minister AL Hek said that out of the 28 new cases, 19 are from the BSF and the rest are from other armed forces.
ELSEWHERE IN SIKKIM, 11 persons tested positive for novel coronavirus taking the State’s tally to 209, a Health official said.
The fresh infections have been reported from East Sikkim district, Director General-cum-Secretary, Health, Dr Pema T Bhutia said.
IN MANIPUR, With 28 new cases of COVID-19, reported on Wednesday the total cases in the state rose to 1,700.
In the past 24 hours, 28 persons, including 19 males and nine females, were confirmed positive at the VRDLs of the RIMS and the SDH Laboratory at Jiribam, stated a Manipur Health Department press release. They belong to Imphal West, Jiribam, Kakching, Kamjong, Tamengong and Thouba districts.
MEANWHILE, ARUNACHAL PRADESH recorded its highest single-day spike of 75 COVID-19 cases, taking its tally of confirmed cases to 462. Forty-nine out of the 75 fresh cases were detected in the Itanagar Capital Complex, according to a bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services.
Twelve cases were reported from East Siang district, followed by five from Leparada, three from Namsai, two from Lower Dibang Valley and one each from Changlang, Longding, Siang and Tirap districts.
IN NAGALAND, the state’s COVID-19 positive cases crossed the 900 mark with the detection of six new cases.
Principal Secretary (Home) Abhijit Sinha, in a press briefing, said the total number of positive cases in the State stood at 902 on Wednesday.
