A Naxalite has been killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh. The encounter took place in the Kistaram area of Sukma district. On the intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists in the area, a joint team of District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force and CRPF’s KoBRA battalion was dispatched for the operation. Since last evening, there has been intermittent exchange of fire between security forces and Naxalites. The body of one Naxalite has been recovered so far during the search of the spot. An intensive search by security forces is going on in the encounter site and the surrounding area.
The gunfight broke out on Thursday evening in a forest under the jurisdiction of Kistaram police station area when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxal operation, he said.
Personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force and 210th battalion of CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), an elite unit of CRPF, were involved in the operation, he said.
“One Naxalite has been killed in the gunfight, and an intermittent exchange of fire is still underway in the area,” the official said, adding that further details are awaited.
