The Public Health Engineering Department, PHED, Nagaland, has launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga, Har Ghar Swachhta’ campaign ahead of Independence Day. During the launch event at the Directorate in Kohima on Friday, Chief Engineer PHED, L. Layang Khiamniungan, highlighted the spiritual and practical significance of cleanliness. He led the Swachhata pledge and officially declared the campaign open.
As part of the initiative, the state team visited Government Middle School, Phezoucha, where students were sensitized on water conservation and quality monitoring. Kohima Rural Division, along with District Administration Tseminyu, Kithagha Students’ Union, and Tseminyu Green District Initiatives, carried out a clean-up and plastic trash segregation drive at the Chunlikha Block PWMU.
They held an interactive workshop where village leaders, councils and students were encouraged to develop the practice of decreasing plastic trash at its source. PHED Zunheboto Division also organized a mass cleanliness drive in public spaces, streets and sanitation sites across the district.
Meanwhile, the Nagaland unit of BJP will launch the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and Tiranga Yatra from tomorrow till August 15 to mark the Independence Day. BJP Nagaland Chief Spokesperson N. Kakuto Chishi said the campaign aims to encourage citizens to hoist the national flag at home, symbolizing individual pride and patriotism.
Key events include free medical camps in all 11 district jails, cleanliness drives across 60 mandals, a Tiranga Bike Yatra, visits to the Deaf Biblical Seminary and ex-servicemen families, and observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. Other highlights include a Hand Cart Tiranga Yatra, food drive, sanitary pad distribution, and football tournaments.
