The Manipur Police said that the incidents of extortion cases have increased drastically in the State thus affecting the general public and sought public support to curb such illegal activities.
Speaking to the media persons this evening, the IGP (Admn) of Manipur Police K. Jayentakumar said that amid the ongoing crisis in the State, the incidents of extortion by armed miscreants have increased drastically. The incidents of grenade and armed attacks to the general public by these miscreants have also increased thus affecting the lives of the general public.
The Police Officer said that the Manipur Police suspected that the armed miscreants were using those arms and ammunition looted from the security armoury in the present crisis and extortion. Considering the grave situation, the Manipur Police has set up Anti-Extortion Cells in every district and he also requested the general public to cooperate with the police to curb the extortion cases.
The IGP (Admn) of Manipur Police also informed that one hundred twenty-one individuals involved in extortion cases have been arrested to date this year.
