In Jammu and Kashmir, the Government has said that over four thousand-three hundred schools have been merged with the nearby institutions under the rationalisation scheme.
In reply to a question from Rajiv Jasrotia in the Legislative Assembly, Education Minister Sakina Itoo said that among the closed or merged 4,358 schools, 1274 institutions are from the Jammu region and 3084 from the Kashmir region. The highest number of closed or merged schools in the Kashmir division are from the Baramulla district while most of the closed schools in the Jammu region are from the Jammu district. She said those schools functioning in the same vicinity or those having rented or no building have been merged with the nearby institutions.
The Education Minister said the surplus teachers have been deployed and rationalised as per the actual need of the area zone or district.
Meanwhile, in a reply to a question on vacancies of teaching posts in the School Education Department, the Minister said that in Jammu division 1665 master posts, 2218 lecturer posts, 402 headmaster posts and 40 principal posts were lying vacant in the Jammu division. In the Kashmir region, 1671 master posts,1957 lecturer posts and 300 headmaster posts were also lying vacant.
