A special court in Jaipur sentenced life imprisonment to four terrorists convicted in the case of finding a live bomb during the serial bomb blasts in Jaipur 17 years ago.
Special Court Judge Ramesh Kumar Joshi delivered the sentence today. On April 4, the court convicted Saifurrahman, Mohammad Saif, Mohammad Sarwar Azmi, and Shahbaz Ahmed.
The 600-page verdict noted that the court considered the case a serious matter, labelling terrorism as a severe threat to society. The court emphasised that no leniency could be shown to such criminals.
The bombings, which took place on May 13, 2008, in the walled city of Jaipur, killed 71 people and injured 185 others. A ninth bomb was discovered in Chandpole Bazar and was defused before it could explode. Public prosecutor Sagar Tiwari told the media that the court treated the case with the utmost seriousness.
