A heavy downpour hit Hyderabad last evening, with the northern and western parts of the city bearing the brunt.
Starting as light, scattered showers, the rain intensified and eventually reached the city’s central areas and became a heavy downpour, impacting areas like Serilingampally, Miyapur, Chandanagar, Kukatpally, and RC Puram, as well as parts of Secunderabad, including Uppal, Kapra, Musheerabad, localities near Osmania University, and Malkajgiri.
Musheerabad recorded the highest rainfall of 184.5 mms while over 20 areas recorded very heavy rainfall by wee hours today.
The heavy rains left the roads inundated, and motorists struggled to find their way out of the waterlogged stretches. Power disruptions were also reported in several areas.
A sudden spell of heavy rain on Wednesday evening threw life out of gear in Hyderabad. The rains caused waterlogging and submerged roads. Several areas were plunged into darkness due to power outages.
Rainfall Concentrated in Western and Northern Areas.
The showers, which began as scattered rainfall, intensified into a heavy downpour across Serilingampally, Miyapur, Chandanagar, Kukatpally, and RC Puram. Uppal, Kapra, Musheerabad, Malkajgiri, and the surrounding neighborhoods of Osmania University were also affected.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TGDPS), JP Nagar Community Hall in Chandanagar recorded the day’s highest rainfall at 97.5 mm. MMTS Lingampally received 82.3 mm, the University of Hyderabad in Serilingampally recorded 81.3 mm, Gachibowli saw 66.5 mm, and PJR Stadium in Chandanagar received 64.8 mm.
