In Maharashtra, merely 48 hours are left for the Mahayuti coalition to form the new government. The term of the current Ekanth Shinde-led government is going to expire on Tuesday.
Hectic parleys were witnessed in Mumbai today as Sena leader Eknath Shinde and NCP leader Ajit Pawar held separate meetings with newly elected MLAs of their respective parties.
Addressing a press conference, BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that Maharashtra will not have a Leader of Opposition. This will be the first time in six decades that the Maharashtra Assembly will not have an LoP.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Election Commissioner of Election Commission of India Hirdesh Kumar and Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra State S. Chockalingam called on Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan and presented the copies of the Gazette containing names of elected members and ECI’s Notification at the Raj Bhavan.
The Mahayuti alliance has won 235 seats out of 288 Assembly seats in the state while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi secured only 49 seats.
