In Telangana, normal life has been severely hit due to torrential heavy rains that lashed several parts of the state.
Kamareddy, Nirmal, Medak, and Nizamabad districts have been the worst hit as several villages and residential areas have been inundated. Indian Army, NDRF and SDRF bid fire service department teams have rescued a total of 1,440 people from different locations.
Scores of villages and low-lying areas have been evacuated, and people have been shifted to relief camps. Rivulets, streams and waterbodies are on spate and disrupted road and rail links at multiple locations.
Meanwhile, heavy inflows into major projects across both River Godavari and River Krishna, with several reservoirs nearing full capacity. Following opening of gates, 2.83 lakh cusecs of water flowed downstream from the Sri Ram Sagar Project while 2.20 lakh cusecs were released from the Nizam Sagar project on River Godavari.
The gates of the Srisailam project have also been opened and 3.18 lakh cusecs of water is being released downstream. 2.5 lakh cusecs of outflows are recorded at the Nagarjuna Sagar project across River Krishna.
Thumpally in Nizamabad district recorded the highest 233 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours. Several recorded very heavy rainfall during the same period. Meanwhile, the met officials warned of heavy rains today and tomorrow.
