Heavy rains continue to lash Marathwada region in Maharashtra, disrupting normal life and causing serious damage to crops. Parbhani, Nanded, Beed, Jalna and Hingoli districts have been the most affected due to heavy rains, leading to overflowing of rivers causing floods and closure of roads and highways.
With many parts of Parbhani district witnessing heavy rains ranging from 65 to 300 millimeters since Sunday, an Indian Army column comprising 60 soldiers and medical teams was mobilized earlier this morning to assist the district administration in rescue and relief measures.
As per a preliminary assessment, floods have affected people in at least 63 villages, damaging some houses and crops, especially soybean and cotton on 45 hectares of land.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has forecast some relief, issuing a yellow alert for most parts of Maharashtra for tomorrow.
