In Goa, heavy rainfall over the past few days has put normal life out of gear. Intermittent downpour has damped the festive shopping mood ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Downpours continued throughout Sunday, pushing seasonal rainfall past 90-inch mark. According to IMD data, a total of 87.29 inches of rain had already been recorded this monsoon between June 1st and morning of August 17.
In several places including Valpoi, Dharbandora, Quepem and Sanguem, rainfall has exceeded the 100-inch mark, leading to reduced footfall in markets and disruption to pre-festival purchasing by residents.
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the state, warning of continued heavy rainfall for the coming days across the state, accompanied by wind speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour.
Due to low-pressure area in the Arabian sea, this weather pattern is likely to last until Friday. Authorities have advised residents, particularly those in vulnerable areas, to remain cautious and follow safety advisories.
