Delhi. NHRC takes suo motu cognizance of boy’s death in open drain incident.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Delhi Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner over the reported death of a boy who fell into an open drain in North West Delhi.

Taking suo moto cognizance of media reports, the commission has sought a detailed report within four weeks. The Commission has also issued notices to the Vice-Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority and the Commissioner of the MCD.

The Commission observed that the contents of the news report raise a serious issue of human rights violations of the victims due to the apparent negligence of the civic authorities.

It said that the report is expected to include the status of the FIRs in all such cases and the action taken against the responsible officials.
