The Delhi Government today flagged off 52 trucks carrying relief material for the victims in the flood-affected regions of Punjab.
Flagging off the trucks in New Delhi, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta mentioned that the trucks contain food, clean water, clothes, tents, medicines, sanitary kits and milk powder for children, along with other basic necessities. She added that the Delhi Government will continue providing aid to the people of Punjab until the situation is under control.
Speaking at the event, Sachdeva said, “All of Delhi stands with the flood-affected people of Punjab, and every Delhiite is committed to helping them in every possible way. This convoy of 52 trucks is just the beginning, and this service will continue further.” He added that the relief material includes mosquito nets, tarpaulins, blankets, medicines, utensils, footwear and other essentials.
“Punjab needs us today. This is not a favour but an act of humanity,” he said, adding that the Delhi government has contributed Rs. 5 crore to the Punjab CM’s Relief Fund.
Gupta said, “We have learned from Prime Minister Narendra Modi that when disaster strikes, we must stand with those in need. Punjab is the jewel state of India, and rising above politics to help Punjab is our duty. If the heart of the nation beats in Delhi, then Delhi’s heartbeat resides in Punjab.”
