The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) today quashed the Karnataka government’s suspension order against senior IPS officer Vikash Kumar in connection with last month’s stampede incident in Bengaluru.
The Tribunal bench headed by Justice Santosh Mehra and Justice R.K. Srivastava said the action was not based upon sufficient and substantial materials.
Mr. Kumar, who was among the five officers suspended in connection with the stampede, had moved the Tribunal challenging the decision.
The CAT also recommended the reinstatement of four other cops, saying police personnel are also human beings and there are no magical powers with them. Meanwhile, State Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that there is an opportunity to go for an appeal against the CAT order.
Last month, the stampede incident occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the city during the celebration of RCB’s victory in the IPL-2025 tournament, in which 11 people lost their lives.
