Assam witnessed the highest single-day spike of fresh Covid-19 cases on Tuesday with the state registering 1,680 positive cases for the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.
With the new cases, the state’s tally has now surged to 26,772, Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday.
Out of the new cases, 570 cases have been reported from Guwahati city, 167 cases from Jorhat district and 159 cases from Cachar district.
Six persons have died due to Covid-19 infection in the state in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 64.
According to the state health department, two deaths each have been reported from Kamrup (Metro) and Kamrup (Rural) district, one from Darrang district and one from Dibrugarh district.
Assam has registered 8,106 Covid-19 cases for the novel coronavirus in the last seven days and it has accounted 30.27 percent of the total cases.
