The flood situation in Assam showed further signs of improvement even as the death toll has touched 108 with one new case reported from Morigaon district.
The total flood-affected population has also come down from 16,54,984 to 12,01,382. Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra in Jorhat, Sonitpur and Dhubri, Dhansiri in Golaghat, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur, Kopili in Nagaon and Beki in Barpeta districts were however still flowing above the danger level.
In the affected districts, altogether 1,339 villages under 52 revenue circles continued to reel under flood waters and 29,981 affected people are currently taking shelter in 203 relief camps across the State. As on today, 82,170 hectares of cropland remained submerged.
In the past 24 hours, flood waters damaged a number of embankments in Udalguri, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts along with a number of roads in Chirang, Lakhimpur, Golaghat and Morigaon districts. Incidents of flood-triggered erosion have also been reported from Biswanath, Lakhimpur and Sonitpur districts.
As many as 21 camps in Kaziranga National Park and three camps in Orang National Park are still under flood waters.
