38 individuals surrendered their air guns as a part of the ‘Air-gun surrender Abhiyan’ programme organized at Tezu in Lohit District, Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.
Attending the programme, state’s Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Mama Natung highlighted how the Airgun Surrender Abhiyan initiative was started in 2021 from East Kameng District.
He said Arunachal has one of the largest forest covers in the country and is a biodiversity hotspot. However, he lamented that owing to the rampant hunting and killing of birds and wild animals, they are vanishing rapidly which necessitated an initiative like Air-gun Surrender Abhiyan.
Airgun Surrender Abhiyan is an initiative of the Arunachal Pradesh government to curb the hunting practice among the people in the state. The initiative has been very successful and thousands of air guns have been surrendered from across the state since the campaign started in 2021.
