Eleven workers were charred to death in a fire that broke out in a scrap godown in Secunderabad on Wednesday morning.
Police said that twelve migrant workers from Bihar were trapped in the godown, located in a crowded area of Secunderabad’s Bhoiguda when the fire erupted. While one worker escaped the fire by jumping from the first floor of the two-storey building, eleven workers lost their lives
It is suspected that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the godown. The matter is being investigated, officials said, adding that the fire has been doused.
Arrangements are being made to send the mortal remains of workers killed in the fire to Bihar, officials told the press.
According to the police the workers could not save themselves as there was only one internal spiral staircase in the building, they added.
