In basketball, the Indian women’s team thrashed Nepal with a resounding 113-32 victory in their opening match of the South Asia Basketball Association (SABA) Women’s Championship in Delhi.
Led by captain Sreekala Rani, India took control from the start, surging to a 7-NIL lead before Nepal managed to get on the scoreboard. Rani delivered an outstanding performance, recording 27 points, 6 assists, and 4 steals.
Nepal will face the Maldives this evening, while India will take on the Maldives tomorrow. The top two teams at the end of the league stage will compete in the final on Wednesday.
India’s centre Aneesha Cleetus hit the first three-pointer of the match and Dharshini Thirunavukkarasu followed suit soon after to extend their lead to 13-4.
The first quarter saw India sink three-pointers with consistency. Sathya Krishnamurthi got in on the act with a three-point shot from deep downtown while skipper Sreekala Rani ended the opening quarter with a three-pointer of her own to give India a 23-6 lead.
