India Lifts Men’s Asian Champions Trophy For Record 5th Time.

In Hockey, India lifted the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy for a record fifth time after defeating the hosts China 1-Nil at Hulunbuir this evening. In a high-intensity clash, India’s Jugraj Singh slotted home the only goal of the game in the fourth quarter. Team India, who were the defending champions, are the most successful team in the competition with five titles.

The Men in Blue were playing in their sixth Asian Champions Trophy hockey final from the eight editions held so far. China made their maiden appearance in the final.

Hockey India, the governing body of the sport in India, has announced each player will receive a bonus of 3 lakh rupees ($3,580) while the support staff will be awarded 1.5 lakh rupees ($1,790).

India’s national anthem is played for the champions, followed by fireworks. The Indian team is off to take photos with the “Champions” banner in front of them. This is their fifth trophy at the competition – the most by any side.
