In the Asia Mixed Team Badminton Championships 2025, India began their campaign with a commanding 5-0 win over Macau in Qingdao, China, today.
The mixed doubles pair of Sathish Kumar Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath set the tone with a 21-10, 21-9 win against Iok Chong Leong and Weng Chi Ng in the opening match, followed by Lakshya Sen with a 21-16, 21-12 victory against Pang Fong Pui of china in men’s singles event.
In women’s singles, Malvika Bansod sealed the tie for India, winning 21-15, 21-9 against Hao Wai Chan.
In men’s doubles, M.R. Arjun and Chirag Shetty secured a 21-15, 21-19 win Chin Pon Pui and Kok Wen Vong , while the women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand dominated 21-10, 21-5 win over Chinese pair of NG Weng Chi and Pui Chi Wa in the final, with this win, India secured a quarterfinal spot. They will face Korea next to decide the group winner.
India has a strong record in team events, including their 2022 Thomas Cup gold and 2024 Badminton Asia Team silver. They now aim for their first-ever Asia Mixed Team Championships title.
