Djokovic, Sinner, Svitolina and Vondrousova sail into semifinals of Wimbledon

India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden have entered the quarterfinals of the Men’s Doubles of Wimbledon in London. The sixth seed Indo-Australian pair defeated the Dutch-American combination of David Pel and Reese Stalder, 7-5,4-6,7-6 in a pre-quarterfinal match tonight. Bopanna and Ebden will take on the Dutch pair of Tallon Griekspoor and Bart Stevens in a clash of the last eight.

In the Women’s Singles quarterfinal, Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, ranked 76th in the world, shocked top-seeded Iga Swiatek of Poland 7-5, 6-7, 6-2. Svitolina will now face Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic for a place in the finals. Vondrousova defeated fourth seed Jessica Pegula of America, 6-4,2-6,6-4 in the other quarterfinal clash.

In Men’s Singles quarterfinal, defending champion and second seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated Andrey Rublev of Russia 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 to reach semifinals.  Djokovic recovered from losing the first set to Rublev to extend his Wimbledon winning streak to 33 matches and remain on course for a record-equalling eighth title. Earlier, Italian eight seed Jannik Sinner beat Roman Safiullin 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the semi-final.
