In tennis, the Unseeded Japanese duo of Masamichi Imamura and Rio Noguchi clinched the Delhi Open Doubles title with a 6-4, 6-3 win over India’s Niki Poonacha and Courtney Lock of Zimbabwe at the DLTA Complex, last evening.
Imamura and Noguchi broke their opponents early in both sets, maintaining control despite a brief fightback from Poonacha and Lock. A double fault on match point handed the Japanese pair the victory at the ATP Challenger 75 event.
In the Men’s singles event, unseeded Frenchman Kyrian Jacquet reached the final after defeating top seed Vit Kopriva in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Jacquet, who had already beaten several top players, dominated with his strong serves. Jacquet will face Britain’s Billy Harris in the final today.
Harris, on the other hand, overcame the third seeded Tristan Schoolkate, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 after a tough two-hour, 22-minute semifinal match.
